This program will be open to anybody who is interested. Experience is not necessary. It will be an ongoing class, but divided into 10 week blocks, I believe with a set rate per block(inquire with the person who owns the studio, I’m just teaching. She takes care of all of that)

The instruments are 7 pitch ANGKLUNG. Bronze metallophones and gongs roughly in a g pentatonic scale known as slendro. The tones are fairly equidistant which differs from the gong Kebyar tuning of Pelog which is more commonly heard.

Geoff Dent taught Gamelan and Ewe(Ghana) music at Loyola Marymount University for 10 years. He taught music at various universities and community colleges. In addition to playing gamelan throughout California and the western United States, he also plays percussion with local orchestras and concert bands. He currently teaches music and special education.
