Group Gamelan with Instructor Geoff Dent

This program will be open to anybody who is interested. Experience is not necessary. It will be an ongoing class, but divided into 10 week blocks, I believe with a set rate per block(inquire with the person who owns the studio, I’m just teaching. She takes care of all of that)

The instruments are 7 pitch ANGKLUNG. Bronze metallophones and gongs roughly in a g pentatonic scale known as slendro. The tones are fairly equidistant which differs from the gong Kebyar tuning of Pelog which is more commonly heard.

Geoff Dent taught Gamelan and Ewe(Ghana) music at Loyola Marymount University for 10 years. He taught music at various universities and community colleges. In addition to playing gamelan throughout California and the western United States, he also plays percussion with local orchestras and concert bands. He currently teaches music and special education.

Currently has The John Cannon Band which includes Alison Freebairn-Smith, Johnny Oestman, Gayle Ellett and Craig Kahn. All seasoned performers in their own right.  Heavy on well composed originals, they also put their own touch on numerous cover songs.

Artist for Action - LIVE SCREENING OF "A FATHER'S PROMISE"

Please join us on March 29th for the private screening of A Father’s Promise a powerfully inspiring film directed by Rick Korn and executive produced by Sheryl Crow. The film follows the journey of professional musician Mark Barden who loses all joy in music and becomes a powerful voice for change after his son Daniel is murdered at Sandy Hook Elementary school. Mark rewires himself and co-founds Sandy Hook Promise which is saving thousands of lives with their programs. Mark’s fines his way back to music with the help of Sheryl Crow, Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks, Bernie Williams, Karen Fairchild, Darryl "DMC" McDaniel's, Jimmy Vivino and the Promise Band. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Mark Barden and Rick Korn and a concert with Mark Barden, Jimmy Vivino, Freddie Ravel and Natalie Barden at Dreamland on PCH in Malibu. The evening supports Artist for Action to Prevent Gun Violence, Sandy Hook Promise, Fernando Pullum Community Arts Center and Armory of Harmony.

Artist for Action is a non-political movement and coalition of music artists, athletes, actors, and influencers who have joined together to take urgent action to help prevent gun violence. AFA supports and elevates both grassroots and large gun violence prevention organizations. Adventurers' Club - Finding Amelia Earhart’s Plane with Lloyd Romeo

The disappearance of Amelia Earhart has captivated the world’s imagination for decades, but the mystery seems to have a solution, if one follows the evidence.

Lloyd Romeo is a project manager for Deep Sea Vision, a company whose team has set out to finally solve this mystery. Analysis of radio logs from the USS Itasca supports the “Splash and Sink” theory near Howland Island. To explore the seafloor in that area, the team meticulously selected the Kongsberg Hugin 6000, an advanced underwater vehicle capable of operating at a remarkable depth of 6,000 meters.
