A Malibu resident, in the Sixties John had a group named The Lost Souls on Bang Records, which later became Lomax Alliance on Columbia Records managed by Brian Epstein and has since continued recording and performing throughout the United States.

Currently has The John Cannon Band which includes Alison Freebairn-Smith, Johnny Oestman, Gayle Ellett and Craig Kahn. All seasoned performers in their own right.  Heavy on well composed originals, they also put their own touch on numerous cover songs.
